The pictures appeared in the latest edition of Love magazine, which I think is great! The pictures are striking, there's this kind of romantic darkness in them which is really haunting. The creepy surroundings of dark forest, lake and swans only add to the atmosphere of the shoot. The choice of models is perfect too: Mariacarla Boscono, Saskia De Brauw, Kristen McMenamy and Lara Stone are excellent here. The pictures reminded me of the baroque, dark paintings of Caravaggio.
This editorial caused a big controversy because the photographers Mert&Marcus were accused of plagiarism. A few years ago Jeff Bark created a series of photographs called "Woodpecker" in which the concept, setting, lighting and even posing are very similar to the ones in "What Lies Beneath".
It's hard to say if Mert&Marcus used Jeff's pictures as an inspiration or just remade the whole shoot. Whatever happened led to them creating these amazing pictures so let's enjoy them!
