This amazing 1920s villa belongs to Richard Shapiro, an antiques dealer and designer of a home-furnishings line.
But this post is not about the house, this time it's all about the garden! Richard didn't want a typical LA style villa so he created something far more interesting - this fantastical garden surrounding the house! I think it's the most beautiful garden I've seen in a long time with the Roman columns, marble lions and tall ficus hedges. It has that mystery feel of a secret garden with all the labyrinths and ivy.
At the far end of the pool there's a full-scale replica of the portico of Andrea Palladio's Villa Chiericati. Palladio was an architect born in 1508 in the Republic of Venice, who is widely considered to be the most influential individual in the history of Western architecture. Truly magical!
